THANKFUL THOUGHT THURSDAY ...

So I am sitting here watching my fave show "Little House On The Prairie" and it dawns on me just how many things there are to be thankful for today.

Can you even imagine life without a wash machine ? I mean seriously - think about it. HOW would you wash your laundry ? I am not the beat my clothes on a rock kinda gal, so doing 2 or more loads a day which is a usual around here would be tremendously hard to do ... ON. A. ROCK. C'mon. How do clothes get clean that way anyway ?!

Hot showers ? ... Okay, now when I was little I took "baths" ... but think about it .. you sit in a tub of your own filth .... when you stand up it is ON you .. GROSS. So, um, yea, showers are a necessity.

Ahem .. next. An outhouse ?! Can you say even GROSS-er ? I might be crossing the line of TMI here, but an outhouse is too OUT for me. My buisness likes to be indoors, not having my bum bit by moskeeetoes .. thank you.  so to whomever invented the water closet/bathroom ... THANK YOU.

Call me spoiled, spolied brat even, but life without the emmenities that today has, seems just way too barbarric and primitive !

The list goes on, microwaves, dishwahers, ELECTRICITY, air conditioners, heaters, phones ... and CARS ! Accck .. can you imagine what people back in 1880 would think of how we live today ?!

We just went on a trip in a few days what back then would have taken months. I wash dishes in minutes, not hours ... hot showers, cold water .... EGADS.

Now giving the fact that I am a blog addict - more so in the winter when school schedules are being followed, WHAT would life be like without my computer ? ACK !! Dare to even think of that ... OMG ... and that was only like 20 years ago.

Now don't get me wrong, I have tried to be old fashioned, about as old fashioned as someone new can get, I think.... I sew alot of things around here, and I do cook - well, somewhat - but not well ... I am lazy (in the cooking area), but I have made homemade waffles and pancakes before. Of course that isn't to say they were very edible, but still.  Lets see, I don't believe in debt ... we read the bible, we homeschool. I have made homemade laundry soap ....

I have tried to imagine the way folks lived way back when and imagine it must have been very hard. The whole you have to ACTUALLY TOUCH meat thing makes me so sick I could throw up a little in my mouth right now, but I think I would make a whole day of living that way before screaming and running rampant to the insane asylum farm. And figure, I would have 6 kids do do that all with too. GAH !

Ummmm, noooo.

So yea, WHEW ... I got that off my chest. I feel better about it, yet thankful I have today to be in. :O)

FOR CRYING OUT LOUD .... I have alot to be thankful for today.  :O)

He,he,eh :O)

  1. Ohhh, how can you DARE talk about such things???... LoL. You could call me spoiled too, but, like you, I've tried and even still do some (the smaller part of some) of the old-fashioned things. I actually think this *thought* that you mention very often. I am so very thankful for all my ~~*stuff*~~ and... I love my stuff! :-}

  7. I also partially agree with sarah13198. It was harder on them in ways but even though they didn't have washing machines, they also didn't have very many clothes to have to keep up with. They usually had a set to work in, one to go to town in, and a Sunday outfit. Then, I don't think they washed those very often! Geez, I wash like 3 loads a day! They also didn't spend half their days running back and fourth shopping, paying bills, etc. We seem to lack so much 'time' these days. The days just fly by, with hardly any meaningful times or events. Our days are sucked up with technology, working away from home to get the mass amounts of bills paid. Sometimes it just makes me sad!!!

  9. I agree we do have a lot to be thankful for but really I would love to live back then!! People seemed to care more about there neighbor back then. Everyone would work together to help out if there home got distroyed. You could trade things for stuff you needed. I think really you would do fine if you grew up way back when you wouldn't know what you were missing and it wouldn't bother you. So even though it seems harder to us I think we make it look harder then it realy was!!!
