COMING UP FOR AIR ...

Geeze, can ya'll believe it has been two weeks since I blogged ? It is not that I haven't wanted to, I have just been so rediculously busy .. sheeesh, it seems as though life was nice and quiet then BAM ... it got so chaotic over night. Well, that is how it goes sometimes.

So, what have I been up to ? Let me TRY to leave off with my last blog ...

The Landlord finally came over. We paid him the rent we owed him and he told us he had been pretty sick. Sounds like us .. on again and off again kinda stuff ... sickyukkies  that just absolutely refuse to go away. Anyway.. I told him of Adam's pay decrease since he'd been gone annd that we needed to look for another place because we couldn't really afford the rent anymore here ... he said we'd figure something out and not to worry about it. The next day he stops by and asks about the house we had been cleaning, then gave us about 5 other houses to clean if we wanted too,  drywalling a garage - a porch to build - bushes to cut down - painting .. blahhh - - - you name it, but it is good money, so no complaints. Adam says if he could do this full time he would, but  it might not always be so lucrative. Who knows though, maybe in time. Been keeping us quite busy though ...

Soooo then the very next day he stops by again, and offers us money if we knew anyone who wanted to buy a van. Ummm, hello - we do - or um, we did. See, we had JUST went and signed papers for that Ford Freestar I had mentioned a while back. We had not driven it off the lot yet, as it was in for a minor fix to the back door. Must have happened for a reason though. The LL says a family from Church was moving to Australia and wanted to sell the van , he showed it to us,   it's a big conversion van, seats 8, Always garage kept, and a Ford also .. but get this, it has the SAME miles on it as the little Freestar did ( 94,000)  - but is a tad bit older. PLUS, it was like, 3 thousand dollars less ! Soooo, since in the state of Wisconsin you have so long to cancel a contract .. that was what we did ! The LL ended up selling us the van for 2,000 instead of the 6 we were going to pay for the Freestar. Crazy unbelievable. The kids love it and of course we couldn't wait to use it. The only drawback though, is that it likes gas a little too much. :O(

So the next thing we did, since we never made it to that one school fundraiser trip to the Dells, was to go to The Great Wolf Lodge. Since we had some "extra" haha .. money now - We spent about four days there and the kids all had a great time. Like I said though we have had the on and off again sickies, so some of that time we weren't feeling that swell, but it was still nice to get away for a mini vacation. Jordan's long time girlfriend/best friend also got to visit us, as she came up with her family to visit. Her name is Tiffany, and Jordan has been friends with her since they were in the 4th grade. She lives where we used to live in Indiana though, so they don't see eachother often, but talk all the time. They SAY. .. they want to get married someday....

Other than that, we bought a Wii fit and the thing yells at me and told me I was obese. GEEZE - if I wanted that abuse I didn't think a video game would give it to me. Idiots.. But I have been using it and intend to lose weight, um that is if  I can give up soda. Hey, it is like my coffee people !!

Sooo what am I forgetting.. I wrote this blog or a similar one last week, but it was lost and I was sooo pissed and didn't re-write it. I hate when that happens... Anyway. I got the homeschooling papers back - I had sent a return envelope for reciept and the girls last day of public school is this week.. In the mean time we have been looking for books and such and I found a nice homeschooling group and joined it. My first meeting is April 6th, so I am looking forward to that. Sounds like there are more people than I thought around here that share my veiws, which is a good thing. The middle school doesn't like it one bit though that my girls are being homeschooled. They have done NOTHING but to make that point quite clear. I had a meeting with tthe guidance counselors and teachers, and some support - some disagree, but you find that anywhere I suppose. Regardless, they have given us a really hard time about it.

It is nice to finally see signs of Spring , even though it did snow a few times. But that is life here. I can't wait till 70's are an everyday thing .. but I am happy with the 50's or so and that is what we are hanging at this week. Way better than the 30's ... that is for sure. :O)

Well, Gracie has a doctor appointment here in a bit and I have to go over to one of the houses and wash the windows ... after that get some groceries. Fun, fun I tell ya.

I have missed being around here though - hopefully things will slow down a little and I can begin to hang around here again. I feel so lost, I haven't had time to keep up very much at all with anyone. I guess though if I get this up, it is some sort of luck though - LOL.

Well, hope ya'll are doing well, take care MUCH LOVE AND HUGS !

  2. It sounds like things are really going great for you and your family Tammie! The van looks great! And how nice that you were able to go to Great Wolf Lodge, I have heard that it is a really fun place:-)

I want a Wii - Fit so much! We can't afford one right now but I'm hoping that some where down the road we will be able to buy one. I think it would so fun for the whole family.

Take care and have a great week Tammie!

  4. We went to the Great Wolf years ago and loved it. The past several years we've done the Kalahari because my boys prefer the wave pool. I'm not surprised to hear you received grief from the middle school. If your children aren't in public school, the school district doesn't get money from the state for them. Of course they aren't happy you're kids were pulled out. I'm sure you'll do fine without them. Millions of home schoolers already have. And don't panic about curriculum. The choice can be overwhelming because there is so much to choose from. (Home schoolers are a huge market for educational materials.) My best advice is don't under estimate the power of your library card! A "curriculum" is really a course of study which could be of your own choosing based on the needs of your child. Enjoy your new van and your Wii Fit! Its great to hear you're being blessed after so much hardship.

  5. Oh, I love your new(ish) van!! We had a conversion van before we moved to Argentina. I loved it and wish I could have it back (except it was in Michigan and had too much rust because it had never been rust-proofed). We miss the size! Our mini-van is SO small and quite impractical for a family of 6. And we paid more than you did...grrr. We are grateful to have a vehicle at all, though. I am so happy you found such a great deal!

We love Great Wolf Lodge!! It is so fun to go there. My girls can't wait to try and go again sometime.

About the homeschooling, don't worry about what the teachers or the school thinks. You aren't even required to have meetings with them. As long as you are following your state's guidelines and laws, the school district has NO say. Be sure to join HSLDA...for legal backup...it is well worth the membership fee!! About curriculum...you may have to go through some trial and error before you find what fits your family best. Like dawninger said, there is lots to choose from but you may try something and not like it. Don't obligate yourself to using something just because you bought it. You can usually resell it at any homeschool fair. Take advantage of the group you found, and the other parents there will have lots of helpful hints for you too.

Oh, I want a Wii fit, but not if it tries to shame me for being fat, LOL. I am well aware of that fact (and not ashamed)!! We can't get one right now, as we just bought our Wii with our tax money. I am hoping to get it for my birthday from my MIL, or we may have to wait until Christmas. It looks like fun, though. We keep seeing commercials for it on TV. Keep us posted on how you like it!!

Hope you have a good week! Try to keep your sanity among all of your busy activities!!

  6. Please do your research before you consider joining HSLDA! Check this out - http://hsislegal.com/

I recommend every home schooler not rely on others, but learn the home schooling laws for their own state and how to comply with them. You don't need to have a lawyer on retainer. Home schooling is legal in every state. Wisconsin is a very easy state to home school in. We've never needed a lawyer or had visits from truancy officers or social workers. Knowledge is power over fear. Educate yourself on the law, know your rights and you'll know what to do in the highly unlikely event someone does knock on the door.

HSLDA does not represent the majority of home schooling families. I know several families personally who requested their assistance and were denied, even though they paid membership dues!! (Buyer beware!)

The LL ended up selling us the van for 2,000 instead of the 6 we were going to pay for the Freestar. Crazy unbelievable. The kids love it and of course we couldn't wait to use it.

  10. That is really awesome news about the van! God is good! And then you got to go on a mini-vacation! Whoot! :)

Good luck with the wii fit. I heard that IF you use it, you really can get in shape, but like everything, you gotta use it! lol

I'm glad the LL is giving you some work to help compensate. I'm sure you don't want to move AGAIN! GAH!

Good luck with the homeschooling. It looks like you are getting good advice from people who are doing it already, so I won't bother trying to give you any! (not that I have any to give! hehehe)

  14. Lots of schools depend on students to get state funding, so there fore they will discourage home schooling. My home town school lost something like 250 students in the past couple years.... because of the politics of the principal. Most of the students went to neighboring schools. The Principal resigned ( I don't think he was given a choice) two weeks ago. We shall see if the school system can recover from the chaos of the past couple years.
Congratulations on the new van! Pretty exciting stuff happening and I can see why you haven't had the time to blog. LOL

  15. I have missed you lots and it was so good to see a blog! Wow you sure have been busy!! My daughter has been to a Great Wolfe lodge but not the whole gang! I sure would like to go but it's not in our budget right now. Some day but I am happy that you got to go and looks like you had a great time! Yeah on the van too but sorry about it liking gas. Goodness!! You think it could run on something cheaper. Glad you finally were able to get a hold of the landlord and glad he was okay. Sorry he was sick. I think that is great that he is being so understanding. Oh and yeah on the Wii fit. Oh those games can be so terrible the Singstar said I was awful!!! But then I got lead singer on another song! LOL Hope your Wednesday is going good! Hugs

  16. The Wii Fit is totally bizzzerk! It tells me I'm overweight and all that... and yeah I would like to be a little smaller but JEEZ I'm only a size 8! About soda... even though it has a lot of cals, I read in an article that caffeine helps you lose weight because it jump starts your metabolism!
With the middle school vs. homeschooling thing... you have to understand that education is their job and they just may feel offended that you are taking it out of their hands. They may not see exactly why you feel the need to take the girls out, but you do! Personally, as a future teacher, I am not really for homeschooling but that's because I take teaching very seriously and I know that there may be teachers/principals that aren't like me and that really shouldn't be in education.
Ugh I hate spring around here! Yeah, it's in the 70s but it rains the whole time and the pollen is ridiculous and when it finally gets sunny again, it's like 90 degrees out! Siiiiigh. You may have had bad winter weather, but we're about to enter our bad weather down here. :(
