COLOR MY WORLD

I think I will go buy a huge box of crayons today. I woke up to a world of white again this morning, it snowed. It snowed enough to cover everything again and cancel school.

So, someone pass me a green crayon, I want spring to be here already and my blank piece of paper needs color !

~ In other news, nothing much is going on today. The kids are home and I blogged all I can blog yesterday. I am thinking I will start to collect my thoughts on some lessons. I went to the library last night and found some good books for homeschooling. I owe a fee though, and since I don't go there often it must be from a long while ago. I am a bit overwhelmed about what to choose though, so many things !

I have heard of a play date of sorts from my homeschooloing group and a few "field trips" .... I think I might just sign us up for those. I am both really nervous and anxious about everything, yet excited too. I know it sounds confusing though - don't it ?

Adam thinks maybe since we haven't really gotten any hits on his resume that we should consider staying around here for another year .. trust me, it is soo NOT what I want, but I guess if moving is meant to be - it will happen.

SOOO, THAT IS ALL I GOT FOR TODAY - HOPE ALL IS WELL WITH YOU GUYS ! HAVE A GREAT DAY !

  2. Good luck with the job hunt. There is no rhyme or reason as to who is getting laid off. With the news of the auto makers .... it seems as many many more will lose their jobs before we get our act back together in this country.

  3. You know everything will fall into place once you get started with the homeschooling! It'll be good for ya, and hopefully, you'll get a chance to meet some other like-minded parents and maybe even make some new friends! :)

  4. Good luck with the job hunt.

I'm curious. Why are you choosing to home school? I know there are benefits to both public and home school. What are your thoughts?

  5. Not that you want to hear it, but we're in the mid 70's today, and spring has sprung! So much so, that Maddy's allergies are in full force! (not fun!)

  6. Good luck with the job hunting for Adam!!! Oh and one word of advice, don't sign up for to much at one time! I remember going to my first open house and I was so excited all the stuff out there for my kids that I grab one of everything it seemed! LOL Then I got home and thought I would never have time to homeschool! LOL I bet there are some co-op groups you can join too. Those are fun. A bunch of homeschoolers get together and do different subjects. We have done writing co-op and an science one once. The thing I go to on Friday's is sort of like a co-op too. Enrichment day. I am sure you'll learn all about the fun stuff in your area. We have been on several field trips also!! You should see if they have a homeschooling group in your area or around you. I know it was hard to pick with all the stuff out there. I started with one company and then went to Alpha Omega. I love it!! I needed something that explained it all! LOL Good luck to you!! Oh and here's some crayons!! HUgs

  7. Sorry to hear about the snow. Spring IS coming. My daffodils are starting to bloom.

I'm so glad you found a local homeschooling group. The ones near us aren't very welcoming to new people which is probably why we aren't in any. We joined one years ago + nobody talked to us or the other new familes that were there. We never went back. I'm on a few Yahoo homeschool groups so I find out about some fieldtrips + classes. Library is a great for homeschoolers. We used to go a lot but now DS looks stuff up online that he wants to now more about.

Have you gotten any books on homeschooling? One of my faves when I was starting out was Homeschooling: A Patchwork of Days Share a day with 30 Homeschool families by Nancy Lande. I found it to be an interesting read. Showed me that there is no right or wrong way to homeschool. Different things work for each family. Have a great day!

  8. After reading this, I have to grab our Crayolas and have a good whiff. I love crayon smell! LOL! You should see the stack of gardening books I have from our library. Since I can't find green outside, I'm looking in books, planning for our garden.

Hope you find connections in your group. Offering to help host a field trip or other activity can be a great way to meet people.

  9. OMG...I can't beleive you have Snow again!!..Wow! Never know what you're gonna wake up to there huh?!..lol The Homeschooling Group Sounds great! I'm so excited for you! I know you're gonna do well! I hope Adam can find a job soon..my Husband's (Todd) work is slow right now, so his hours just got cut back to 32 hours a week for the next 4-6 weeks!...ughhh..not good! (then they should go back to 40hrs. hopefully) It's hard going from 58 hours a week down to 32..and here we just bought this house!..Lovely huh! Guess I'll be watching every penny for the next little bit..no extra spending. I luckily still have some of my Tax Refund left so I'm gonna save that to go towards the next House Payment. But I guess he's extremely lucky to still have a job...so many people I know are getting laid-off or losing their jobs. I wish ya'll the best of luck! Have a good day! Go out and have a Snowball Fight!..lol Take Care girl! Luv & Hugs, Tammy

  10. AHH snow. I couldn't take it.

Does your state have something called a Standard Course of Study? We have one in NC and it's what teachers go by to know what the kids should be learning and when. It helps to know what it developmentally appropriate too and I have gotten many ideas on lessons just by looking at the objectives. You should def look it up, because don't homeschooled kids still have to take state tests? They do here in NC and I thought it would be the same in most places from NCLB, ya know?
