LEMON PEPPER

Today was NOT a good day  .... A was home - need I say more ?

I have a migrane, my stomach hurts - Gracie is driving me insane and I am so stressed right now. I NEED to get out of here... ah, wishful thinking, I guess. I would need a babysitter and a ton of money first.

Oh well, such is life I guess...anyway  - I came here for positive reasons, not to be a drag.. lol.

I was wondering if anyof you have certain smells that bring back a flood of memories ?

This evening I was cleaning out the spice cupboard and I smelled the Lemon Pepper ... ok, I know you are thinking WHY... Why did I smell the Lemon Pepper ? Well, it is funny - everytime I smell certain things I can remember back to being in a certain place and time. The Lemon Pepper reminds me of going to my Grandma's when I was young. Every few days my mom and I would go over to my Grandma's house and then my cousin Gary (who lived with my Grandparents most the time) and I would always go over to my Grandma's next door neighbors house - they were a nice older couple and they always talked to us and gave my cousin and I candy. Everytime I can remember going into her house it smelled of Lemon Pepper.

Buttermilk buiscuits do that too - My Grandma in Mississippi made them homeade and everytime I smell them cooking I think of her ... man, I sure do miss those times. I guess I shouldn't have taken them for granted so much.

Isn't it funny how I can remember things from a long time ago just from a smell ???

Well, I think I am going to go - I was just wondering if any one else had scents that they do that with as well.

Hope you all have a great night. :O)

  1. I think a lot of people associate memories and scents.

I know that mostly for me it's more bad memories and smells. Like when I smell tapioca (which I hate), it takes me right back to times that DeWeese would make it when I was a kid.

Or if I smell mushroom soup it takes me right back to the time that Dad made Cambell's Mushroom Soup and then got REALLY mad because Jay and I wouldn't eat it. He was stomping all over the house and yelling at us. I get the feeling that it wasn't really about the mushroom soup! LOL

I wish things weren't going so rough for you right now. :( *HUGS*

  2. I definitely associate smells w/ certain places and times in my life. I don't realize it until I smell the smell and then I will have a flashback!

  8. Smells do bring back memories. If there is some good italian food being cooked..it makes me think of my Grandmother's. Also after she had passed away ..my friend's family was italian and if I went to her Grandmothers..it smelled the same way..even the food tasted similiar. You need to go have some "me" time..even if it's something simple like taking a walk or go sit and have a cup of coffee at starbucks..something u can be alone for a little while. Hope you feel better!

  9. Oh yeah, smells bring back memories. HC and I just walked through our neighborhood a little bit ago, and the smells of the various grills brought me back to cookouts at Grandma's as a kid. Some smells take me back to going to the amusement park as a kid. And then there is the smell of geraniums. I smell those, and I go back to the bedroom I used to sleep in when we'd visit my grandparents with I was a kid. Grandma would winter geraniums in pots in that window. My parents would tuck me into bed, close the curtains and distrubing some 12 geranium plants...and I'd be trapped there in that bed, with that small room filled with the smell of disturbed geraniums. To this day, I HATE that plant. It will never grow in my yard, because if I find it there, I will hack it to bits.
